The Dance Paintings by Polly Alakija capture in monumental scale the human movement in dance. Rhythmic, dynamic and lyrical, this body of work reflects endless hours of observation at the 'Dance for all Studios'.  Alakija's recognizable style has won her awards as an illustrator and The Dance Paintings promise to expand her already growing audience. Born in the UK she lived in Nigeria for 15 years before moving to Cape Town in 2005. The Dance Paintings, her second solo exhibition at the AVA employs the Main Gallery and is accompanied by Jenny Parsons in the Long Gallery.

Jenny Parsons an established urban landscape painter explores the mixed residential and industrial area in Salt River, Cape Town.  Renowned as a colourist her recent paintings capture the layered history of human habitation on land.  Parsons has held many lecturing positions across the country and has worked full time as an artist since 2000.

Christopher Zinner a recent graduate from Ruth Prowse presents his first solo exhibition A Family Body in the Artsstrip. This auto-biographical body of work emotively captures the human condition. Painterly rendered faces express universal power structures within relationships.

In the New Media Gallery Hanneke Benade, Tamlin Blake and Marlise Keith exhibit Keepsakes a collection of re-worked magic lantern slides mounted in small light boxes. Within these small and intimate spaces the artists present to the viewer exotic views, scenes, ceremonies and some possibly salacious surprises that resonate from their inner creative spaces.
