Artist Cathy Abraham has produced a multidimensional body of work over the past year, culminating in this multi-faceted exhibition: naked. Consisting of stripped and sacred, the latter is the most extensive and is the artist's chief focus. Sacred is a collaboration in the truest sense between two sisters: photographer Jenny Schneider and Abraham, with Schneider's immaculately detailed images providing the painter with her inspiration.
Stripped
Wet-on-wet mixed media paintings by Abraham that blur the observed erotic object of the body, these draw inspiration from erotic images from the early 1900s until today. Here Abraham uses multiple layerings of  domestic liquids such as tea, coffee and bleach to create figures that seem molten and melting, at times both curiously teasing and vulnerable, and at others disconcerting and chimeric.

Sacred
Nature photography runs parallel to the earth's gradual loss of wild places. Through nature photography, vulnerable wild spaces are captured and held, “saved” in an image and spared from desecration. Schneider is mindful of this, but for her there is also a personal element in her choice of natural subject: the solidity and groundedness of earth, and the mutable fluidity of water.
Primarily using a classic Hasselblad camera, Schneider produces images of superior quality and high definition, taking tremendous care when selecting exactly which images to shoot, and which prints to make available to Abraham. A sensitive and nuanced photographer, Schneider is aware of the fleeting quality of time, and captures glimpses or stolen moments of nature's finer details in a meditative and selective ongoing process. Her carefully-chosen and sensitive black and white nature photographs are digitally printed onto canvas and subtly sepia-toned.
