Juli Jana’s work is characterised by a fluidity of line and expression whether in colour or monotones and often has a lyrical quality while making use of various graphic forms: colograph, intaglio etchings, litho prints, dry point and mono prints.Born in Johannesburg in 1947 and having grown up in Cape Town, Juli Jana has developed an understanding of the many voices in South Africa. Her work reflects the earth, sand, light and movement in nature as well as the set shapes of the city. |

Having studied art at East London School of Art under Jack Lugg in the 1980’s she continued her studies in Cape Town at Ruth Prowse and in London where she studied printmaking at Morley Printmakers.Although Juli Jana has been known as a landscape artist, in recent years she has been moving more towards abstract work and has specialised in graphics since she moved to London where she exhibited with Morley Printmakers at St. Brides Graphic Institute, Morley Gallery, the Mall Gallery, LCP Gallery, Sobo Gallery, Crocket & Artist’s Books and in the Artists Open Studios. Juli spends most of her time between Cape Town and London where she is currently studying for post graduate degree poetry. |
