Waterkant Gallery to Open

Venue: Waterkant Gallery, 123 Waterkant St, Cape Town. Tel: (021) 421 1505.
Time: 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Performances:
23 Nov 2009

The Waterkant Gallery announces its opening on Monday, 23 November from 5pm to 8pm. The opening will be hosted at the gallery, located at 123 Waterkant Street, Waterkant, Cape Town. In the coming months, exhibitions will feature the works of new and emerging African talent, as well as more established artists.
“Through setting up the Waterkant Gallery, I was able to fulfil a long-standing desire of launching a base from which to promote and develop African talent both in Cape Town and internationally,” says Matthew White, Director and owner of the Waterkant Gallery.
Matthew spent over ten years in a corporate career, yet throughout this time, he was keen to explore opportunities to develop his interest in art into a new career. The Waterkant Gallery is the platform from which he will promote African art talent to local and international markets.

The inaugural show will feature a solo presentation by Belgian-born photographer Dominique Logan. The exhibit, entitled “Deep South,” captures the spirit, beauty and energy of Cape Town and its surrounds. Dominique has been living and working in South Africa for over 14 years and has successfully carved out a career in metal design and sculpture.
Next year the Waterkant Gallery will be making its international debut at both the New York and London Affordable Art Fairs in May and October respectively.
The gallery will open its doors to the public on Tuesday 24 November. Exhibition hours are from 10h30-18h30 from Mondays to Fridays, 10h00-14h00 on Saturdays and 12h00-16h00 on Sundays and public holidays.
The Waterkant Gallery will stock a selection of iconic international photographic books alongside African titles. Additionally, custom-printed greetings cards, some featuring exhibition images, will be available.
