In his new series of shadow paintings Eastman has created a collection of silhouetted shadow portraits that appear to the viewer simultaneously strange and familiar. The works are rendered using Eastman's signature technique of enamel on aluminium and the shadows themselves are enigmatically cast against this monochromatic shimmering surface .

The works, by virtue of their reflective and changeable surface also echo the impermanence and transience of the shadow projected.

The shadow by its nature, is a form that is synonymous with metamorphosis, and in the case of Eastman's work it is a fleeting moment captured in the reflective painted surface, capable of evoking memory and self reflective interpretation in the viewer.

The materiality of the paintings invite reflection in both a physical  and conceptual way, allowing a space for the interpretation of one's own iridescent image as reflected on the surface of the artists' canvas, and for interpretations of the shadows themselves, the personas they represent, and moments they record.
