Award winning South African band LARK are launching the
re-release of their ‘Mouth of Me’ album. The album will have the original
six tracks remixed to include their drummer as well as three new tracks,
‘Black Swan’, ‘Weights’ and ‘Heroin Mary’. Lark's groundbreaking music is
a blend of electronic beats, audio manipulation and organic
instrumentation.
LARK has been together since 2004 and was voted as being one
of the ‘Top 10 best bands in South Africa’ by Cosmopolitan Magazine in
November 2006. The band consists of Paul Ressel (producer and sound
designer), Inge Beckmann (lyricist and vocalist), Simon Ratcliffe
(multi-instrumentalist and studio engineer) and Sean Ou Tim (drums).
Having played in numerous bands since the age of 11, Paul
mastered the guitar, drums, keyboards and bass guitar. He discovered
electronically produced music while studying design and started performing
as Humanizer from the age of 21. Inge is a songwriter and a trained singer
in opera, classics, dance and jazz. She has worked with the likes of
Marcus Wormstorm, Sibot and Cape Town Hip Hop outfit, The Spindle Sect.
Simon Ratcliffe iplays the double bass, Armenian oboe and
the flute. He has been nominated three times for a SAMA award for his work
as a studio engineer. Sean Ou Tim is the newest member of the group and is
the most sought after session player, performing and collaborating with
bands such as Max Normal, Battery9, Urban Creep, Freshly Ground and Henry
Ate.
The visual presence and style of LARK gives reference to
their music – eclectic, original and unafraid. In April this year, LARK’s
album ‘Razbliuto’ won a South African Music Award (SAMA) for the ‘Best
Alternative Album’.
