Enjoy a summery Sunday afternoon listening to South Africa's
favourite muso's at the annual Summer Sunset Concert Series at the Kirstenbosch
Garden.
10 January - Freshlyground
One of our best loved groups, bridging historical divides,
recognizable wherever they go with music that appeals across the ages,
Freshlyground draw the crowds. Across the ages, old and young, dance to
their beat. Their fourth studio album is due for release late 2009 and
this year saw them touring the United States and Canada for the first
time, making the band one of a handful of South African acts to have a
successful and sustainable career both internationally and at home. Doo
bee doo…
17 January - Zebra and Giraffe
Back by popular demand Zebra & Giraffe has been playing to sold out
audiences around the country since their appearance at Kirstenbosch last
year. The cleverly named act is actually the 12-lettered pseudonym of
Johannesburg music wunderkind, Greg Carlin. Carlin is Zebra & Giraffe and
the 10-songs on ‘Collected Memories’ are an announcement of his own
special take on making music to all who hear it.

24 January - Fokofpolisiekar
Initially the band was formed as a joke to shock the mostly conservative
Afrikaans community with its name and notion of an Afrikaans punk band.
Well known in local underground music circles from their work in the bands
New World Inside, 7th Breed and 22 Stars, they released their first EP,
As Jy Met Vuur Speel Sal Jy Brand soon after forming.
31 January - Lira & friends: HHP and RJ Benjamin
If its soul you’re looking for then this Encounter brings some of South
Africa’s greats together with an afternoon ranging from soul, rap and R&B.
Queen of soul, Lira Molapo, winner of 4
SAMA Awards including Best Album and Best Female Solo Artist in 2009
is an Afro-Soul artist who moves easily from R&B to jazz, from lush pop to
bossa. With Hip Hop Pantsula, HHP, as he is commonly known whose rap style
preformed in multiple languages, although primarily Setswana, expect a
concert of pure style. A style setter he is not only a great entertainer
but won the 2007 series of SA Strictly Come Dancing and has appeared as
himself in Rhythm City. This music trailblazer is joined by RJ Benjamin,
known as the white man with a black Man’s soul. His outstanding skills as
a writer and producer have seen him working with renowned artists such as
blues guitarist Dan Patlansky, DJ Cleo, HHP, MXO and many more. He has
developed his own unique style of neo soul and R&B.
