Saturday Night Fever
On Thursday all we intended doing was going to the Ivory Room
for a quick after work drink. Instead we ended up staying there until an
extremely uncivilised hour for their superhero theme party.
What an absolute blast! It was great seeing so many people dress up in
outrageously embarrassing costumes and have so much fun. Best of all there
were none of the conventional superheroes. People really let their
creative juices flow! In my humble opinion the best-dressed award goes to
Obi-Wan-Kenobi, followed by Silent Bob. The close-but-no-cigar award goes
to Wolverine, and to be frank, I don’t know what to make of the Chernobyl
Twins, Bad Haircut Boy or the Scarlet Crusader.
Friday night we went to see WIT, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play
about a woman dying of ovarian cancer. It’s a surprisingly entertaining
show, considering the morbid subject matter. Jacqui Singer brilliantly
plays the hardnosed, cancer-stricken professor, and is well supported by
David Muller and Brian Heydenrych as her doctors, and Quanita Adams as the
kind-hearted, but quite dim-witted nurse.
As can be expected by now, some daft bugger’s cell phone went off
during the performance and I was really heartened by the colourful
reaction it received. I sense a lynching sooner or later!
And that is it. I know, I didn’t get up to much this week, but I have
a confession, I discovered a strategy computer game called Civilisation
III, and have been up until all hours of the morning conquering the
world. I just can’t describe how much fun it is to sign a “Right of
Passage” and “Mutual Defence Pact” with a sovereign nation and then march
right up to their key cities and blitzkrieg them.
Hey, who called me twofaced?
If you’ve been to, or discovered a great place to party or chill,
please let me know. We’ll check it out and report back.
