Farms in the Durbanville Wine Valley will be hosting the
inaugural Soup, Sip & Bread this year on Sunday, 21st June 2009. This
winter event co-incides with Father’s Day, on of the year’s most special
days for family get togethers.
Why soup and bread? Through the centuries these staples
have been symbols of warmth and conviviality. In the cold and wet Cape
winters, a bowl of soup, crusty bread and red wine warm the cockles of the
heart. Come and enjoy the traditional, rustic setting of Altydgedacht’s
old cellar. Enjoy Thai Butternut soup paired with Gewürztraminer and
hearty Minestrone with the unique Italian variety of Barbera.
De Grendel is hosting a France vs. Italy Soup Pairing as
well as Cooking Classes by well known chef, Marc Wassung. Partake in a
hands-on cooking class where you will take your own breads & soups to take
home with you. France vs. Italy Soup Pairing offers you a serving of both
a Tuscan Bean soup with Ciabatta and a French Onion soup served with
baguette. You can match these with our De Grendel Merlot & Shiraz and
decide what makes the winning combination!

At Durbanville Hills they would like to offer you a choice!
For the not so hungry – the Soup and Wine pairing invites you to
experiment with different soups and wine pairings, mix and match until you
find the perfect combination. You can also kick back and relax in front
of the cracking fire and enjoy the signature biltong soup, butternut
infused with cinnamon and a mussel, ginger and coconut soup served with a
selection of breads and a complimentary glass of wine.
Come and bake bread at Nitida with Jenny Morris – aka
Giggling Gourmet. There will also be live jazz, award winning wines and
wholesome soup to set the tone for this special Father’s Day.
Treat your family to a winter inspired Soup & Bread Buffet
served with a complimentary glass of Diemersdal wine at Diemersdal
Estate. In the surrounds of the beautifully restored horse stables you
can also enjoy an informal wine tasting and some light music.
