Ernest Hemingway’s Library is an exciting once-off sale for book, movie and music-lovers and collectors running over ten days from Friday 9 April to Sunday 18 April at the Event Centre at the new Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village, Green Point.
A fund-raising initiative, Ernest Hemingway’s Library is curated by Well Read Books with proceeds going to Wola Nani, the AIDS NGO focusing on the needs of women, orphans and vulnerable children infected and affected by the pandemic.
Taking the Nobel prize-winning author as its inspiration, the venue will be selling both best-selling and hard-to-find second-hand books, DVDs, CDs as well as other related ephemera.  In addition, the Hemingway lifestyle will be channeled with rare single malt whisky tastings, Lindt chocolate pairings and other experiences that we think the iconic writer would have enjoyed.

The parlour-game challenge posed by this event is : If Hemingway were alive today, which books/authors would he be reading?  What music would he listen to?  Which films or movie stars would he watch?
At Ernest Hemingway’s Library, we will be offering the kinds of books that we think Hemingway would have collected if he were still living:
  • Africana
  • Cult classics by other Nobel and Pulitzer prize winners
  • Modern First Editions
  • Titles on hunting, fishing and shooting
  • Travel and exploration
  • History and non-fiction
  • Biographies
In addition, in honour of the ladies in his life (Hemingway was much married and had friendships with some of the most glamorous women of the time including Ava Gardener and Marlene Dietrich), there will be a diverse array of books on fashion and style, as well as popular women’s fiction.  There will also be a good selection of children’s books and movies.
