Harvesting the bounty of the vineyards is one of the most
important moments in the making of good wine. The Durbanville Wine Valley
celebrates ‘Feast of the Grape’, it’s annual Harvest Festival on Sunday,
21 March 2010, signaling the end of the grape season and the beginning of
autumn.
The Durbanville Wine Valley’s grape harvest festival is a
complete package of wine, great food, fine music and other vendange
activities – from picking a bunch and grape-stomping, to leisurely wine
tastings and cellar tours.

There’s something hugely gratifying in rolling up your
sleeves, taking your shoes and getting your hands ….. and feet …. dirty.
All the hard work of first picking your own grapes, de-stalking by hand
and then stomping by foot is rewarded afterwards with more leisurely
pursuits, such as a vintners’ breakfast or harvest lunch.
Wine enthusiasts can experience an insider’s view of the
winemaking process at participating cellars. Feel, smell and taste the
process from beginning to end.
Visitors can also enjoy guided cellar tours and tastings of
current and older vintage wines with the winemakers.
Durbanville Wine Valley farms taking part are Altydgedacht,
Bloemendal, D’Aria, De Grendel, Diemersdal, Durbanville Hills, Hillcrest,
Meerendal and Nitida.
