SPECIAL EVENTS

Starlight Classics Concert

Venue: Vergelegen Wine Farm, Lourensford Road, Somerset West.
Time:
7:30pm (5th), 7:00pm (6th)
Price:
R125 (Fri); R135 (Sat)
Performances:
5 & 6 Mar 2010
Genre: Music

Together with the annual fusion of classical, contemporary and African music, Starlight Classics will feature the all-consuming theme of the FIFA 2010 World Cup.
The audience will be entertained by the contagious steps of the Diski Dance, especially devised for the 2010 tournament, as well as the talented soccer tricksters, who are able to perform awe-inspiring feats with a soccer ball.
In anticipation of 2010, the FNB 20 Tenors, a group of young South African talent who had audiences enthralled at previous Starlight Classics performances, will perform their medley of rousing soccer anthems, classical pieces and even some drinking songs.  Other artists include Freshlyground, Zwai Bala, Zip Zap Circus, Annake de Villiers, Brandon October, Angela Kerrison, Jazzart and the Pro Cantu Youth Choir.

This line-up of spectacular performers will take to the outdoor stage with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in the gardens of Vergelegen Wine farm, all under the baton of Richard Cock, the conductor who has made classical music accessible to everyone.
Says Richard: “If everyone could see a concert like this, they’d feel better about themselves, about South Africa, about the world.”
Don’t miss the Rand Merchant Bank/FNB Starlight Classics - for the first time, you might just be convinced that the vuvuzela, South African soccer fans’ raucous trumpet, could contain a hidden, classical connection...!
As before, bring your own picnics, blankets and low fold-up chairs to enjoy the sounds of music under the stars.
No tables or high chairs will be permitted.
