The South Peninsula area in the region of Simonstown will be abuzz
with outdoor action this coming Friday. With more than a dozen events
planned as part of Ndorfin Take-Off Day, a crowd of adrenaline seekers are
expected to get stuck into an adventure menu boasting everything from sea
kayaking and abseiling to a Beachkids Olympics event.
Take-Off Day will allow visitors to experience facets of the ‘Deep
South’ that only a handful of fortunate locals usually get to enjoy. A
trail run and mountain bike outride will take you into a fresh air zone
fragrant with the aroma of fynbos, while scuba, snorkelling and sea
kayaking excursions will add a dollop of aqua action.
Activities will kick off at 06h00, with most of the fun taking place
around the Southern Right Hotel, the event centre based on Glencairn
Beach. Transport will be arranged from here to Silvermine Nature Reserve
(rock climbing), Simonstown (ocean cruises, rubber-duck rides and scuba
diving) and some of the other decentralised activities.
For those in the mood for a less strenuous experience, there will be a
boule competition, food stalls, a Cape Point Route Expo, beach walks, a
graffiti wall and just lazing on the deck while watching the fun. The
Ndorfin Adventure Calendar launch will take place in Embargo’s at 19h00,
with DVD footage of extreme sporting events around the world. A top Red
Bull DJ will be slamming the decks, with adventurers from around the
country partying way into the night.
