SPORT & OUTDOOR

Crazy Store Table Mountain Challenge

Venue: Table Mountain, Cape Town
Time: 7:00am
Price: -
Performances: 16 Sep 2006
This annual 35km trail run circumnavigates Table Mountain, positioning it as a landmark race and one of the key off-road events on the local running calendar. With a growing number of runners taking to nature trails, this high-profile run has massive potential to become a hit with international off-road athletes in the not too distant future.
The 7:00am start gun will see runners taking on the steep slopes of Table Mountain from Kloof Nek, with the First Stage negotiating an 8km climb to just below the King's Blockhouse on Devil's Peak. From here, the 10km Stage Two follows the contour path to the second transition point at Constantia Nek. Runners are in for a special experience on Stage 3 as they pass through the restricted Orange Kloof section, a pristine section of Table Mountain not generally open to the public. This final leg comprises a tough 17km, and will see runners taking on Myburgh's Path to Suikerbossie, before slogging home along the top of the Twelve Apostles and down the Pipe Track to the finish at Kloof Nek.
According to Event Director Trevor Ball of Adventure Works!, the Crazy Store Table Mountain Challenge has been developed to cater for a wide range of off-road running enthusiasts. "Beginners can run one of the first two legs, while intermediate athletes can take on the final stage, all as part of a team relay. There are tougher events than the Table Mountain Challenge out there, but none can compete as far as accessibility, scenery and a sense of personal achievement goes", said Ball.
