lacoza Restaurant
A group of Brazilians and Argentineans meet at a hotel school in
Switzerland and decide to open a restaurant in Cape Town. The result? A
fusion of culture, architecture and food called lacoza restaurant and
lounge.
“Lacoza is a fusion between old and new, between South American and
South African culture” explain co-owner George. “We take traditional
international cuisine and change certain aspects, like including new
ingredients and ideas. We serve chocolate platters with chilli, chilli
chocolate cake, chicken hearts and Springbok Ravioli. The meat is also
prepared differently, for instance in South Africa there is only one cut
of loin. In Argentina there are three different cuts, and we only use the
most tender part.”
Lacoza
is a spacious, relaxed venue with outdoor seating, two rustic dining areas
downstairs and a modern dining room, lounge area and bar upstairs. A Dj
plays lounge, chill out and acid jazz music Tuesdays to Saturdays from
10:00pm. “ The idea is for people to come and have a drink, have dinner
and then go back to the bar or couches. It’s more about the experience
than dinner.” George says.
Aside
from an exotic and original menu, Lacoza also serves a variety of unique
homegrown cocktails, including tequila, vodka and rum infused with
chilli’s.
From April ’04 Lacoza will be serving a free bottle of wine to tables
of four, and two free bottles of wine to tables of six or more people. In
future there will also be regular tango nights and cognac, cigar and
whiskey connoisseur evenings.
Lacoza, Hiddingh Ave, Gardens, is open Mondays to Saturdays from
5:00pm, with the kitchen open from 7:00pm. For more information call (021)
