Marimba Restaurant

the instrument after which it is named. Situated at corner Heerengracht
and Coen Steytler, it offers gourmet meals with global fusion flavourings,
and also offers patrons a 7 night-a-week music programme, including Blues,
Big Band, African, Latino, Funk, Swing, Marrabenta, Mozambican and Salsa
Rhythms as well as a Sunday night SuperJazz Tribute Series (visit

for a full entertainment line-up)
Head
Chef, Gernot Bunke, combines his African, Asian and European experience to
bring about a unique taste, which goes back to the basics where the
natural flavours of dishes are enhanced, rather than disguised. Marimba
favourites include the Lamb Shank, which is braised in red wine and served
on bubble-and squeak with a citrus gremolata, and Tagine of Chicken that
is infused with flavours of saffron, cinnamon and ginger and served with
preserved lemons, olives and fried cous cous. Other highlights on the
menu include Tabuleh Rolls, Phyllo pastry filled with a cous cous mix of
tomato, peppers, cucumber, baby marrow and herbs served on a chive tomato
coulis, or for dessert, a Light mousse of yoghurt with grenadine stewed
apples.
Marimba
draws on African influences to complement the contemporary décor. Resident
Marimba player, Bongani Sotshononda, adds to the African flavour with
regular Marimba performances. This is a place where Capetonians and
tourists come together in appreciation of fabulous food and exceptional
music, at very competitive prices.
And for those in search of the perfect business lunch, the restaurant
boasts a 45 minute lunch from R30 - wholesome dishes that are quick to
prepare.
