Swirling skirts, castanets and a passionate display of Flamenco dancing, rhythms and sounds is what audiences can look forward to in Sentimientos, La Rosa’s upcoming season at the Artscape Theatre. This dynamic dance production is directed by Carolyn Holden and explores the broad spectrum of human emotions, from fury to elation.
Holden, La Rosa’s founder and director, is well known for her bold concepts and innovative approach. In Sentimientos, she has drawn from various influences and created a visual feast that combines traditional flamenco with a contemporary flare, with the dancers exquisitely costumed by Dicky Longhurst.  The production also features choreography by the Madrid-based choreographers Joaquin Ruiz and La Truco. A highlight of this return season will be ‘Travieso’, created by Ruiz and restaged by Holden.

World-music is the inspiration behind the onstage band, consisting of Bienyameen on Flamenco guitar, Robert Davids on Cajon, Robert Jeffery on guitar and cello, Brydon Bolton on double bass, Christopher Jeffery on violin and Loreán Swartz and Kathy Henderson on vocals.
La Rosa was founded in 1990 as a platform for students of Spanish dance to perform their chosen art form on a regular basis and at a professional level. Continuous and increasingly frequent performances in and around Cape Town, and at Arts and Dance festivals across the country have established the company as one of the foremost exponents of this dance discipline. La Rosa has also been involved in development initiatives since 1997 focusing on making flamenco dance accessible to the youth, developing the artistic and technical skills of potential professionals as well as audiences across the broader socio-economic spectrum.
Performances run from 28th October to 30th October at 8:15pm with two shows on Saturday 31st October at 2:30pm and 8:15pm and one show on Sunday 1st November at 6pm.
