This well-known male-only ballet company from Russia, will
be visiting South Africa during April and May.
Under the leadership of Russian dancer and choreographer
Valery Mikhailovsky, this company of 10 male Russian dancers has made a
name for itself performing a repertoire of famous female showpieces such
as La Sylphide, Raymonda, Paquita and Giselle – all en pointe.
They perform the most sophisticated contemporary male
numbers with skill, as well as the classical female roles with virtuosity
of their toe technique, with delicate taste and humor. Critics claim that
the unusual success of the company is determined by their professionalism,
their fresh interpretation of ballet art and courageous staging.

Transforming themselves into ballerinas, they get down to
their real mission of rendering the classics in grand Russian style and
pull off their performance with great aplomb.
The classical part of their programme consists of a pas de
deux from Esmeralda, Le Spectre de la Rose, Adagio from the ballet
Scheherazade, the Ocean and Two Pearls pas de trios from The Little
Humpbacked Horse. Their contemporary programme features Dance of the
Little Swans, Dance of the Toreadors, an Argentine Tango, Habanera from
Carmen and Bolero amongst others.
The State St Petersburg Male Ballet has been danced on some
of the best stages in Russia, the US, Tokyo, Paris, Vienna, Berlin,
Madrid, Rome, Amsterdam, Salzburg and Copenhagen.
