Jazzart Dance Theatre has teamed up with award-winning director, Lara Foot, to create a provocative new production, partly god, which opens at the Artscape Theatre on October 16.
Choreographed by Jazzart’s resident dancemakers and using an evocative original soundtrack composed by Neo Muyanga, partly god explores particularly South African themes. It follows the story of a young man’s search for his father and ultimately his journey toward redemption.

The narrative tells the story of a young man on a quest to find his father. On his journey he encounters the spirit of a boy soldier whose wisdom helps him find healing within himself.
Foot says, “It is a production that will take your breath away and leave you with the realisation that we all have a choice to overcome the legacy of aggression and violence that is affecting our society.”
Foot believes audiences will resonate with the themes as they are ones that affect society as a whole. “partly god examines violence on a subconscious level, in almost a dreamlike way, and also looks at how we are able to transcend our backgrounds and experiences and choose to turn our backs on violence.”
“Over time lots of wars have been fought in the name of god. Often as humans we refer to god as separate to us and in doing so we relinquish responsibility. We all need to take individual responsibility for the way we live our lives,” she maintains.
