Following its resounding success in 2008 and 2009, the edgy, life-affirming and humorous dance work Beautyfull comes to the Baxter Theatre for a short season of five performances only.
The collaboration, which features leading South African integrated dance initiative Remix Dance Company, South African Circle of Dance Academy (SACDA) and Jazzart Dance Theatre, was originally commissioned for Disability and Women’s Week in August 2008, produced and performed at Artscape.

Beautyfull draws on contemporary dance, ballroom and Latin American dancing, as well as Argentinian tango, to showcase the three companies who explore the various themes of love, the moments of absence and the longing for love. The music features a wonderful selection of complementary styles and artists such as Nina Simone, Neo Muyanga, Letta Mbuli, Tupac and Mandoza, combined with the tango waltz ‘La Luna’ and clarinet tangos. The show also features a live performance by 19-year-old Charné Hugo, who reached the Top 50 in Idols, seen recently on television.
The dynamic cast who make up the Beautyfull ensemble are Nadine McKenzie, Malcolm Black and Andile Vellem of Remix; Phindile Kula, Refiloe Mogoje and Jackie Manyaapelo (newly appointed artistic director) of Jazzart; eight dancers from SACDA and 12-year old dancer Aiden Bizony. The combination of and collaboration by these companies can be described as nothing short of inspiring.
