The latest in the highly popular, side-splitting theatre
talk show series, Let’s Mix It: The Samoosa Trinity shapes up to be
perfect entertainment this festive season.
Back in funnier and fresher form, the team that brought
local audiences Let's Mix It, Let's Mix It 2 (Double the trouble twice the
spice) and Let's Mix It 2.8GLX, is at it again with a new rendition in the
brand, the fourth in just three years.
Well-known arts editor and writer, Rafiek Mammon, directs
the multi-character two-hander, which he has co-written with Gary Naidoo.
Naidoo also plays several hilarious personalities alongside Chad Abrahams
in the role of the inimitable Hadji Fatgiyah Bardien, winner of the
acclaimed B-TV Talk Show Idols. She is also an accomplished baker and
samoosa-maker.
The Cape Flats hadji has her finger every pie. She has a
personal story that is engrossing, a brain that works overtime, and a
mouth that knows no boundaries, while interviewing the most idiosyncratic
guests on her talk show…
Together with her floor manager, Albert, the scene is set
for yet another hilarious romp. This time Hadji Fatgiyah and her quirky
studio guests will tackle - in true local style and beyond - subjects such
as how the trinity is perfectly encapsulated in the three-pointed samoosa.
Audiences will once again be entertained by the characteristic
universality of the varying characters, set right here in the Mother
City’s own backyard, from the hadji’s lounge in Walmer Estate.

The show contains old favourites, like ex-Zumo wrestler
Sisanda Gugushe, ex- Miss Gay S.A., Felicity Mybergh, and of course,
not-so-handy handyman, Boeta Rajee – all played by Gary Naidoo. However,
the new characters, both local and international, will bring to some
delightful surprises. There’s a British X-Factor impersonator and a Jewish
businesswoman from Planet Camps Bay who invented the glow-in-the-dark
toilet seat that is now taking the world by storm. All these supported by
the usual groundbreaking video footage that takes sketch comedy and
character acting to new heights. Once again the video footage will take
the mickey out of movie trailers and infomercials.
The Let’s Mix It brand has enjoyed phenomenal success since
it first opened at Obz Café in February 2007. Within three months it moved
to the Baxter Concert Hall, where it played to capacity houses of more
than 600 people per night. In February last year Let's Mix It 2.8GLX
displayed similar success and audience acclaim. Over the few years the
series has managed to draw a loyal following with some audience members
seeing the show nine times.
Lets Mix It has since played in community venues as well as
festivals like the Woordfees in Stellenbosch. Lets Mix It 2 was invited to
the Whale Festival in Hermanus in September 2008 and in August last year
it was translated into Afrikaans under the title Menegelmoes and travelled
to rural areas for two weeks on the Klein Karoo National Festival’s (KKNK)
road show. The team also performed to great acclaim at the Voorkamerfees
in Darling recently, once again living its philosophy of taking theatre to
the people.
