Time: 8:15pm
Price: R100 - R120
Performances: 1 - 4 Dec 2010

In celebration of their 20th anniversary, La Rosa will present their greatest hits and most memorable moments in a dynamic showcase at the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre in December. Swirling skirts, castanets and a passionate display of Flamenco dancing, rhythms and sounds are what audiences have come to expect from La Rosa, and Celebración Flamenca is no exception.

Celebración Flamenca is directed by Carolyn Holden, La Rosa’s founder and director, who has been bringing audiences innovative, slick and passionate performances since 1990. The production features choreography by Holden and by the Madrid-based choreographers Joaquin Ruiz, La Truco, Domingo Ortega and the late Javier Cruiz, performed by La Rosa’s top dancers.

They will be accompanied by a musical ensemble including the well known Flamenco guitarist, Bienyameen, with Robert Jeffery (of Flat Stanley fame) on guitar and cello, Robert Davids on cajón and with South Africa’s own cantaora Loreán Swartz on vocals.

La Rosa Spanish Dance Theatre was founded in 1990 as a platform for students of Spanish dance to perform their chosen art form on a regular basis and at a professional level. Continuous and increasingly frequent performances in and around Cape Town, and at Arts and Dance festivals across the country have established the company as one of the foremost exponents of this dance discipline. La Rosa has also been involved in outreach and development initiatives since 1997 focusing on making flamenco accessible to the youth, developing the artistic and technical skills of potential professionals and growing audiences across the broader socio-economic spectrum.
