Everard Read, Cape Town, is delighted to present Penelope Stutterheime’s latest solo exhibition, ‘A Sense of Place’.
These colourful paintings – some quiet, some joyful – present a step into new territory for abstractionist Stutterheime. In ‘A Sense of Place’, Stutterheime explores the concept of self by locating herself as artist in a physical place. Inspired by her recent travels, Stutterheime examines the relationship between her self and her location – Cape Town, McGregor, Greyton, San Francisco & Istanbul, amongst others. These richly coloured and carefully daubed emotional landscapes show an intuitive response to landscape, space and the myriad experiences each place offers up.
Opening from 18:30, Wednesday 17th April at 3 Portswood Road, V&A Waterfront
