So what's it all about?
Hong Kong policeman Eddie Yang (Chang) and Interpol agent Watson
(Evans) are on the trail of crime lord Snakehead (Sands). Snakehead
kidnaps a mysterious young boy and Yang follows the trail to Ireland.
While rescuing the boy Yang drowns, and is brought back to life by the
medallion the boy is carrying.
The mystical medallion is able to grant people eternal life, and immortals
Yang and Snakehead face off in a classic good vs evil battle.
Is it any good?
The Medallion is Chang's usual fare of action mixed with comedy, but
this time a bit of fantasy is added to the mix. Fight scenes are pretty
standard with Chang tying villains up with their own clothes. The wirework
is, most of the time, rather obvious and disappointing. Evans is a bit
over the top and, at times, downright annoying with his slapstick role and
comedic faces and sounds. Sands, however, is quite credible as the villain
and you could watch the movie just to see him get his comeuppance.
The special effects, aside from the wirework, are pretty good,
particularly the parts where Chang is killed and comes back to life, and
the fight scenes in Ravenskeep.
This is by no means Chang's best work, but will provide fans with a means
to wile away 90 minutes.
Score: 2/5
How about those special features?
The features are pretty standard with subtitles, different language
options and a producer and director's commentary. There are a lot of
deleted scenes 14 in all which aren't that great. There is, however, an
alternate ending at the end of the deleted scenes which is worth a watch
Score: 2/5
