So what's it all about?
Biker Carey Ford (Martin Henderson) returns home to get his girl,
Shane (Monet Mazur), back and clear his name of a drug charge. The biker
whose drugs he has, murders a rival gang leaders’ brother and pins the
murder on Ford. Now Ford has to evade two gangs, the FBI and try to win
back his girlfriend.
Is it any good?
The plot line is virtually non-existent and the acting poor. Even the
director admits it’s a “popcorn movie”. However, you’re not renting this
movie for the acting or the story, but the motorcycles, the pretty girls
and the tattoos. And there are plenty of them.
The bike chases are spectacular and well filmed with numerous extreme
close-ups. The chase scenes are not confined to the open road, but also
include innovative chases through the desert, a plantation, a very
impressive scene shot on top of a train, and a chase sequence through peak
hour traffic.
Torque also includes a great rock and hip-hop soundtrack, a couple of
witty one-liners and comical moments. It should only be watched by people
who enjoy fast cars, motorcycles and extended chase scenes.
Score: 2/5
How about those special features?
The audio commentary with the director and actors is well worth
watching. It’s funny and informal and the cast obviously didn’t take
themselves or the film seriously. This followed by a technical commentary
that is pretty standard.
There are two animatics, the first storyboarding the opening race
sequence, the second giving an interesting and detailed description of the
train sequence and which film techniques were used.
Toruqe also includes a music video from the soundtrack called “Lean
Low” by Youngbloodz. Audio and subtitles are available in English and
German.
Score: 3/5
Best part:
There are two standout scenes – the first is the chase on top of the
train, the second the “bike fight” between the two leading ladies.
Best quote:
“Words strung into sentences obviously bewilder you”
