DVD REVIEW

The Cutting Edge: Going For the Gold

Director: Sean McNamara
Cast: Christy Carlson Romano, Ross Thomas, Scott Thompson Baker, Kim Kindrick and Stepfanie Kramer
Classification: A
Running Time:
101 min

“Going For Gold” is the sequel to the wonderful feel-good romantic drama “The Cutting Edge” starring DB Sweeny and Moira Kelly. In the sequel Sweeny and Kelly’s characters have married and had a daughter, Jackie (Romano) who has also grown up to be an ice skater.
But rather than being a sequel, this film turns out to be more of a remake. Jackie injures herself in a skating tournament (as did her mother in the original) and after recovering decides to try pairs skating. She teams up with an extreme inline skater, Alex (her mother teamed up with a hockey player) they argue a lot and eventually fall in love.
The skating is fairly interesting to watch, particularly with the inline skating moves added into the mix and there’s great chemistry between Romano and Thomas’s characters. Although nothing original, it’s a nice Sunday afternoon movie to watch.
