DVD REVIEW

Seed of Chucky

Director: Don Mancini
Cast: Jennifer Tilly, Redman,
Classification: 16V
Running Time: 83 min
I remember watching the first Chucky movie as a child and being absolutely terrified. But over the past 20 odd years (yep, that’s how long The Chuck’s been around) the Chucky franchise has evolved into a horror-comedy and Chucky has even picked up a wife along the way. In the latest release, Seed of Chucky, we are introduced to Chucky and Tiffany’s offspring, a decidedly freakishly looking doll with a sexual identity crises and not sure whether it wants to be serial killer.
Tiffany, caught up in her newfound motherly role decides to give up killing and brow beats Chucky into doing the same. But Chucky being Chucky, and wanting to teach his son/daughter a trade…
Although Chucky is the undoubted star of the movie, Jennifer Tilly does a great job playing herself as a trashy, slutty movie star and becomes the object of Tiffany’s quest to be transferred into a human body. AS one can expect the body count rises rapidly and real life rapper Redman, also playing himself, is gutted quite graphically, and somewhat hilariously, by Tiffany.
As always, things end badly for Chucky, but there’s enough of an indication at the end of the movie that he’ll be back.
If you’re looking for some offbeat, bloody comedy this is it. If you want hardcore horror, look a little further.
Fans of the Chuck should definitely take a look at the extras. There’s a  funny “Family Hell-iday Slide Show” as well as a very interesting feature on the history of the Chucky franchise.
