Born 1927 Fort Victoria, Southern Rhodesia (Masvingo, Zimbabwe) Francois Roux attended the Boys High School, Stellenbosch from 1940-1946. In 1946 he studied at Camberwell School of Art, London and travelled in Europe. He furthered his studies at the Royal Academy Schools, London from 1946-1951, qualifying with a Diploma in Painting. Whilst in London Francois participated in several group exhibitions.

Francois Roux is known as a painter of landscapes, portraits and plant studies and has devoted his artistic career to developing his methods of observation through the use of oils, tempera, watercolour, chalk and charcoal. A master draughtsman, he is equal to any choice of vantage point that offers a dramatic and challenging perspective of his subject.
