It was here where the boys had their first big series of shows and it was here where, because they had run out of material to perform, they famously kissed each other on stage in a bursting Concert Hall, for their 3rd and final encore. The crowd went nuts. These concerts resulted in the infamous '101 Ways To Use the Acoustic Guitar' album that propelled them to national status.
After their tour of the UK in 2005 it was agreed between them that they should take a break after over 2 decades of constant touring together. These boys have a performance record around the world unequalled by any other South African guitarist and the fact that they are now going to play together again, should be a beacon to many people who would love the opportunity to watch and hear them once more, side by side.
Newman and Cox both have long and distinguished careers as soloists. Both are the recipients of multiple awards down through the years and have each collaborated with a small army of other finely honed musicians not only from SA but from all over the world.
The duo though has a special place in the hearts and minds of folks who have seen them in concert. Their irreverent approach to old classics in particular are legendary and have tickled the ribs of a multitude spanning 3 generations. Indeed their shows are unique in that their jaw-dropping guitar skills can attract 3 generations of the same family!
The shows promise to be an incendiary series of guitar nights like no other, delivered by two masters of the guitar performing a mix of their side-splitting golden oldies with new material.
This series of concerts then, is a celebration of not only their musical re-union, and a staggering 30 years of performance together but also for their back-to-back birthdays; Tony's is the 24th of Jan - the day the concerts begin - and Steve's is the 25th.
