AbaloneHouseBraai

Enjoy decadent Saturday night braais at Abalone House and Saffron Restaurant, Paternoster’s first five-star boutique guesthouse.

With winter officially over, Abalone House and Saffron Restaurant is welcoming back the sunshine with a new and enticing dining option for guests: interactive, fully-catered, classic West-Coast braais.

Hosted in the conservatory garden setting of the cosy Orchid Room, the designer braais are informal yet still offer the sumptuous cuisine for which Saffron Restaurant is renowned. Comfortably seated around the roaring fire, guests enjoy an interactive experience as the chef prepares their meal before them – chatting as he works. It’s as close as you get to being ‘in the kitchen’ without leaving your table.

An extensive menu is offered too, catering for seafood lovers and those who prefer Angus beef steak. When available, traditional West Coast favourites like crayfish and snoek, hottentot fish and fresh mussels are all on offer, accompanied by fire-baked potbrood or roosterkoek, along with roasted vegetables and baked potatoes. There is also a salad buffet bar where guests can build their own salad from a variety of offerings. For sweets, traditional South African baked desserts such as malva, sticky toffee or brandy pudding will be served, accompanied by Saffron’s homemade ice-cream.

The West Coast braais are open to everyone – not just resident guests at Abalone House. And should there be a big sporting event on, the adjacent Africa Bar is equipped with a television and any desired beverage – from beer and brandy to French champagnes and the world’s top six single-malt whiskeys, plus a special selection of cocktails.

The opulently appointed Saffron Restaurant is another dining option at Abalone House, serving world cuisine with an African twist. Even more up close and personal is dining at the Chef’s Table, which seats up to six guests, in situ right in the kitchen. Sumptuous breakfasts and afternoon high teas are also enjoyed in the sun-drenched Orchid Room, surrounded by exotic orchids and with views over the indigenous gardens.

The Saffron Restaurant West Coast braais at Abalone House are priced from R250 per head and include crayfish. Pre-booking is essential. For more information and reservations for West Coast braais at Abalone House Boutique Guesthouse, call (27) (022) 752 2044
