The 2011 Stellenbosch Wine Festival introduces a brand new MCC Lounge featuring ten prominent Cap Classiques at one of the Cape’s biggest food and wine extravaganzas.

Legendary Simonsig Estate which celebrates the 40th anniversary of the iconic Kaapse Vonkel – South Africa’s first Méthode Cap Classique – is one of the MCC producers who will lend extra sparkle to this all new festival attraction.

Sharing this milestone with the Stellenbosch American Express ® Wine Routes, which also turns 40 this year, Simonsig will showcase and share their latest 2009 Kaapse Vonkel and Kaapse Vonkel Brut Rosé vintages with festival goers and offer enthusiasts a trip down memory lane into the origins of the country’s very first bottle fermented sparkling wine when visiting the lounge.

Sharing this ‘top of the pops’ experience complete with freshly shucked oysters are Villiera, Mooiplaas, Longridge, Spier and Pongrácz who will all bring their latest and signature vintages along for this cork-popping affair. The lineup includes Villiera’s Monro Brut 2007 and Brut Natural 2008; Mooiplaas’ Duel NV; and Spier’s MCC 2008 while Pongrácz will enthrall with flutes of its signature Brut, Rosé and flagship Desiderius Pongrácz 2003.

Tickets to the Stellenbosch Wine Festival range from R120 per person per day for online bookings or R140 at the door, to R350 for the Golden Pass for the entire festival. The entry fee to the opening of the festival, an exclusive Wine Connoisseurs Evening from 16h00 till 21h00 on Thursday, 28 July, is R160 per person for online bookings or R180 at the door and includes gourmet delights.
