The 152-year-old L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, one of the Cape’s most prestigious horse racing events, takes place on 12 January 2013 with world-class entertainers set to take celebrations well into the night.
After the dust has settled, fortunes won and lost and the sun begins to set over Kenilworth Racecourse, the L’Ormarins Style Lounge will come alive to the music of South African DJ Fresh and acclaimed UK DJ, Lora.
Since 1997, DJ Fresh has entertained South African airwaves with his unique brand of good music and hilarity. With over 20 house albums under his belt, Fresh is no stranger to electronic music and has shared the DJ booth with a number of international acts including Armand Van Helden, Paul Van Dyke, Frankie Knuckles and Fat Boy Slim in nightclubs around the world.
Bursting onto the club scene after being crowned winner of Movida’s Corona DJ competition, Lora has taken the London club scene by storm. With residencies in London, Dubai and Paris, Lora has played for parties including Simon Le Bon’s 50th celebrations, high-profile F1 parties and exclusive events for both Prince William and Prince Harry.
“This year’s Queen’s Plate is set to be an eventful day at the races and we are excited to offer such amazing entertainment line-up,” says Michelle van Eyden, L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate event organiser. “With outstanding DJs and celebrity judges for our Best Dressed and Best Hat competitions, the event promises to be the highlight of South Africa’s 2013 social calendar.”
Presenting a variety of hospitality & culinary offerings, including the VIP Stud Club, wine bars and picnic areas, sponsored by L’Ormarins since 2005, the Queen’s Plate will be the perfect place to share good wine with friends, enjoy the races and dance the night away.
In addition to the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate equestrian endeavors and riveting live entertainment, art and passion are captured in the ancient winemaking skills displayed in Antonij Rupert Wines as well as a collection of classic, rare Mercedes-Benz cars on display courtesy of the Franschhoek Motor Museum.
With 16 of South Africa’s best thoroughbred horses competing for the R1 million purse and race-goers looking to take the Best Dressed honours, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate at the Kenilworth Racecourse on 12 January 2013 promises to be a spectacular affair.
