Fans of 10km racing can experience the fun atmosphere of the Cape Town Marathon on Sunday September 23, on a scenic route celebrating the beauty and history of the Mother City.

The 10km race caters to runners, who prefer the 10km distance or are not fit for a marathon, and are keen soak up the lively Cape Town Marathon atmosphere. The race forms part of the City of Cape Town’s Heritage Day festivities and runners of all fitness levels are encouraged to join in.  

There are many useful 10km training programmes on the Internet, so whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced runner – choose a programme that suits you and get on the road.

The 10km, which starts at 06h30 in Adderley Street and ends at the stunning Green Point Urban Park, is open to runners aged 15 and older. 10km finishers can relax in the Urban Park and support the full marathon runners as they come down the finish straight.

The 10km prize money is R5 000 for 1st place, R3 500 for 2nd and R3 000 for 3rd on to R400 for 10th. There are also age group prizes and prize giving will take place at the Green Point Urban Park at 9am. The entry fee for licenced athletes is R35 for seniors and R20 for juniors, for unlicenced athletes it is R55 for seniors and R30 for juniors.

Registration and number collection is at the Sea Point Civic Centre on Friday 21 September between 10am and 7pm and on Saturday 22 September between 10am and 5pm. Pre-entries close on September 10 and can be done online or by downloading the entry form from www.ctmarathon.co.za.

The marathon festival weekend also includes a 5km Fun Run and a 5-x 4.2km relay for clubs, companies and schools on Saturday 22 September. The events, supported by the City of Cape Town, Cape Town Tourism, Cultural Affairs and Sport, and Peninsula Beverages, provide a wonderful opportunity for competitors to get involved in a big city event while promoting a healthy, active, outdoor lifestyle.
