Set in Berlin’s seedy Kit Kat Klub, 1931, the Kander and Ebb musical revolves around cabaret performer Sally Bowles, a faded, jaded, good-time girl and her relationship with young American writer Cliff Bradshaw.

Well known songs include ‘Life is a Cabaret Old Chum’, ‘Cabaret’ and ‘Willkommen’. In 1966 John Kander, Fred Ebb and Joe Masteroff produced the very first version of their musical adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s semi-autobiographical novel, Goodbye to Berlin (1939). It has had subsequent incarnations and makeovers since most notably the film version starring Liza Minelli, directed by Bob Fosse in 1972, and two incredibly successful Broadway and West End revivals in 1987, and 1998 with Sam Mendes’ production starring Natasha Richardson and Alan Cumming as Emcee.

Steven Stead directs the all-star cast of Cabaret the Musical, headed by Samantha Peo (Chicago the Musical, Hair, The Rocky Horror Show, Thoroughly Modern Millie) as Sally Bowles, Kate Normington (Mamma Mia, Hairspray, Menopause the Musical) as Fraulein Kost and, adding to the divinely decadent atmosphere, the German musical theatre star Sascha Halbhuber who makes his South African debut as the sinister, sexy Master of Ceremonies, Emcee. The Musical Director Stefan Lombard conducts the seven piece onstage band.

Samantha Peo is supported by an outstanding cast that includes Bryan Hiles as Clifford Bradshaw, Peter Court as Herr Schultz, Charon Williams-Ros as Fraulein Schneider, Duane Alexander as Hermann, Carmen Pretorius as Lulu, Jodie Renouf as Rosie, Suzzi Swanepoel as Frenchie, Londiwe Dhlomo as Texas, Lyle Buxton as Ernst Ludwig, Marlee van der Merwe as Helga, Reg Hart as Bobby and Malan Le Roux as Viktor. Set Design is by Greg King, Costume Design by Neil Stuart-Harris, Choreography by Janine Bennewith and Lighting Design is by Tina Le Roux.

Cabaret is at Theatre on the Bay in Camps Bay from 14 August until 6 October 2012 with performances Tuesdays to Fridays at 8pm, on Saturdays at 4pm and 8pm and on Sundays at 2pm and 6pm.
