The Mechanicals are a self-funded, Cape Town based collective of professional theatre directors, actors and designers who came together in 2008 to create professional, independent theater while striving for innovation without obligation.

Since their inception, The Mechanicals have won enormous critical and public acclaim receiving many standing ovations and several nominations for prestigious awards for the work produced.

In 2010 DECADANCE won the popular Fleur Du Cap People’s Choice award. In 2011 COSI took the same prize. And to keep the ball rolling in 2012 DIE REBELLIE VAN LAFRAS VERWEY also won the award. DIE REBELLIE also won best director (Albert Maritz) and best actor (Carel Nel).
