What better way to experience the Spanish philosophy: “Eat while you drink, and drink while you eat!” than with the traditional Spanish bar-food delectably paired with your favourite Durbanville Hills wines while you sit back, relax and watch the sun set over Table Bay.
Served with fresh toasted bread, some of the innovative taste options include butterbean and rosemary purée served with ostrich carpaccio, marinated artichoke with goat’s cheese, avocado and sesame- prawns and tomato and basil chicken.
According to legend, the first tapas were slices of bread or meat used by sherry drinkers in Andulucia to cover their glasses between sips. Another folklore is that King Alfonso X, el Sabio or “the Wise One” made sure Castillian taverns served wine accompanied by something to eat to prevent the alcohol from going straight to the head.
Whatever the true origin of tapas, enjoy them like the Spanish do – with a glass of wine and a relaxed attitude.
Tapas is served from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Cost is R95 per person (Includes tapas platter and your choice of three of Durbanville Hills’ best). To book or for more information contact Chantel Meintjies at the Durbanville Hills Eatery [email protected] / 021 558 1337.
