The 20th concert series kicked off on 20 November 2011 and runs until 1 April 2012.

With a healthy mix of old and new the concerts attract capacity crowds from every age group and the music genres represent the best sounds on circuit. Appearing at Kirstenbosch has become a major coup for young and exciting new acts so we welcome some new names into this hall of fame and hear their young, upbeat notes as they make their garden debut.

Old favourites The Parlotones, Johnny Clegg, Prime Circle , Freshlyground, Goldfish and more thrill their audiences with their popular sounds. Put down your blanket, bring your picnic basket (Kirstenbosch was recently voted one the worlds top picnic spots by National Geographic) and get set for a hot summer of music as you lie back and enjoy a combination of exquisite beauty and melodic sound.

Young rock fans will love to hear Locnville and Jax Pannik on 20 November whilst the very popular and unique sounds of Van Coke Kartel, Die Heuwels Fantasties, Jack Parow and JR take the stage on 27 November. The glorious sounds of Lira on 4 December starts the lead up to the festive season and the scene hots up with The Parlotones giving the summer holidays a boost on 11 December. With Christmas Day being on a Sunday expect a great concert on Monday 26 December with Zebra & Giraffe to wind up the weekend of partying.

After a heavy night bringing in 2012 spending New Years Day (1 January) in the garden is the way to chill and, with a Mango Groove concert to add to the fun, hangovers will soon be forgotten. Welcoming the Graeme Watkins Project and Plush for their first appearances at the Garden makes 8 January a special concert whilst fans of Johnny Clegg will be flocking in on 15 January for a concert of note. Acoustic sounds and great vocals bring Dan Patlansky and Natasha Meister back again to bring some folk and blues into the mix on 22 January.

Newcomers to Kirstenbosch Flash Republic and Foto Na Dans bring their unique music on 5 February. Heading towards Valentines Day sees our international act Going Back to the Crossroads (12 February) followed by Taxi Violence and Machineri on 19 February. For classical music lovers the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra lends a tranquil note on 26 February.

Ever popular and always crowd pullers, the Blues Broers featuring Albert Frost appear on 4 March followed by one of the hot Kirstenbosch favourites Goldfish on 11 March. Dont miss one of the highlights of the season when Freshlyground give it their all on 18 March. The penultimate concert on 25 March features that legendary musician Hugh Masekela - making his first appearance at Kirstenbosch and sure to delight both young and old.

Not an April Fool is the lineup for 1 April of Hot Water and Wrestlerish but two groups sure to get your toes tapping as the Old Mutual Summer Sunset concerts close in style.

The Old Mutual Summer Sunset Concerts take place at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden (Rhodes Avenue, Newlands, Cape Town) on Sundays from 17h00 19h00. Gates open at 16h00.
