The music of Cole Porter, legendary American songwriter of the 20th Century, is simply made for dancing.

CapeTownToday.co.za is giving away 10 sets of double tickets to Cole Porters Night and Day. Enter our Competition here

The fun, style, drama and wit on Porters lyrics, combined with memorable melodies and his innate sense of the possibilities and complexities of rhythm, make an ideal accompaniment for the glamour and variety of dance. Whether you want to swing it, rock it, jazz it up or slow it down, theres a Porter song to provide the soundtrack.

In celebration of Porters versatility and enduring appeal, the Cape Town City Ballet puts its own dynamic spin on some of his best-loved songs. With classical ballet, jazz and tap dance, the CTCB is turning hits including Lets Misbehave, Too Darn Hot and Every Time We Say Goodbye into showstoppers. Be it a lively ensemble number danced by the whole company or a romantic encounter for two, the music of Cole Porter, written with the same energy and verve as he lived his life, dances on Deborah Louw

Five choreographers have collaborated on this new work, Kirsten Isenberg, Mervyn Williams, Nigel Lucas and tap fundi, Paul Johnson, while the production is directed by the CTCBs Artistic Director, Robin van Wyk, who also contributes to the choreography.

Saxophonist Sarah Elphick adds a touch of magic with her musical accompaniment to some of the dance numbers, while veteran ballet danseur noble, Johnny Bovang, demonstrates his versatility as he interprets Porters melodies on the piano, alternating with Daniel Szybkowski in the role of Cole Porter.

The production demonstrates again the ability of the classically-trained dancer to perform in other genres, as they flit from the strictly classical to the neo-classical, contemporary and modern styles, alternating with jazz and tap dance.
